Leading Treatments. Expert Staff.

We offer patients a wide variety of options in managing their pain.

Treatments

In an ongoing effort to provide patients with the very best treatment for their unique conditions, our physicians use systems developed by multiple brands and companies. Because we know that no treatment is universal, we individualize systems from companies like Nevro, Medtronic, Boston Scientific, St. Jude Medical, and Nuvectra. Note: Intravenous Sedation (IV) is optional for procedures.

Common Treatment Options

Monitored anesthesia care allows you to feel very relaxed and reduces the awareness of pain you may experience. You will not be fully asleep for the duration of the treatment, and it wears off quickly. This is a great method for quick and simple procedures.

A steroid or other appropriate medication is injected in the area of the nerves surrounding the coccyx in the lower back and tailbone region.

This treatment refers to a number of procedures whose goal is to address any compression affecting a disc. It can be performed in conjunction with a local anesthetic. Our clinic does the lumbar region only.

Also called a discogram, this procedure allows your physician to identify the source of your discomfort by injecting a dye into the discs that may be causing pain. Your physician then uses a fluoroscope and x-ray machine to examine the results. Our clinic does cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions.

Femoral neuropathy results in the inability to move or feel part of the leg due to a damaged femoral nerve. This could be from injury, pressure on the nerve, or as a result of a disease. This is an outpatient procedure your physician uses to numb the leg either before or after surgery. A local anesthetic is used and its effects usually reside after a few hours.

A steroid or other appropriate medication is injected in the genicular nerve around the knee.

An intercostal nerve block is an injection of a steroid medication and local anesthetic injected under a rib that helps relieve pain in the chest area caused by a herpes zoster infection (or “shingles”) or a surgical incision. It can also be used to help diagnose the source of pain.

Bone cement is injected through a small hole in the lumbar or thoracic spine area to repair an injured, fractured, or collapsed vertebra and to relieve pain.

A local anesthetic is injected into the area of the sympathetic nerves located on either side of the lumbar region of the spine.

An anesthetic is injected into the medial nerves along the facet joints of the spine. This procedure typically involves treating several levels of the spine at one sitting. This can be performed in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions of the spine.

This minimally invasive intervention is used on patients suffering from chronic headaches or head pain. A steroid, or other similar medication, is injected in the occipital nerve region at the back of the head and above the neck.

Neurostimulation uses electrical impulses to block nerves from transmitting pain. Those who are dealing with neuropathic pain and have found conservative treatments ineffective are good candidates for this procedure. Neurostimulation can be performed in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions of the spine.

Injections

In addition to surgical procedures, our physicians provide a number of treatments
such as injections to address chronic and acute pain.

The carpal tunnel region of a patient’s hands and/or wrists is injected with a steroid or other medication, providing relief from pain.

If you experience neck, shoulder, or arm pain as the result of a pinched nerve, our physicians may recommend this procedure. The medication is injected to decrease swelling of the nerves.

Our physicians perform this short, outpatient procedure to provide temporary relief. A local anesthetic followed by a steroid is injected into the facet joints of the affected area in the spine. After the anesthetic wears off, the steroid begins working in a few days and will last for a varied length of time based on your specific condition.

Using numbing and anti inflammatory medications, this is a non-invasive procedure our physicians use to help patients dealing with arthritis of the hip joint.

An injection assesses and relieves piriformis syndrome. This condition results from spasms of the piriformis muscle in the buttocks, causing pain and irritation of the sciatic nerve.

Using ultrasound, the bursa in the intermediate joints is injected with a steroid or other medication for the purpose of treatment or diagnosis.

This treatment has been proven over time and remains one of the leading procedures to treat lower back pain. If you experience back, neck, shoulder, or arm pain as the result of a pinched nerve, our physicians may recommend this procedure. The medication is injected to decrease swelling of the nerves.

In this treatment, our physicians inject a combination steroid-anesthetic to reduce swelling and inflammation of the nerves in the lower back and legs. This is a brief, outpatient procedure lasting only a few minutes. The duration of its effects will vary depending on the patient’s condition.

Using ultrasound, the bursa in the major joints is injected with a steroid or other medication for the purpose of treatment or diagnosis.

Our physicians recommend a steroid injection to diagnose or treat lower back pain and/or sciatica pain connected to sacroiliac joint dysfunction. The sacroiliac joint injection allows for the diagnosis of the pain source and provides pain relief.

The bursa is a small fluid-filled sac that functions to reduce friction between tissues. For this injection, the bursa in the shoulder is injected with a steroid or other medication for the purpose of treatment or diagnosis.

Using ultrasound, the bursa in the small joints is injected with a steroid or other medication for the purpose of treatment or diagnosis.

Our physicians recommend this procedure for those experiencing shoulder pain. A mixture of anesthesia and anti-inflammatory medicine is injected into the area where the shoulder meets the torso.

If you experience neck, shoulder, or arm pain as the result of a pinched nerve, our physicians may recommend this procedure. The medication is injected to decrease swelling of the nerves.

Trigger point injections are effective in treating areas where knots of the muscle have developed. These knots may irritate surrounding nerves, causing pain and discomfort. An injection directly to the source of pain can bring relief for a sustained period of time.

Treatment for Neck and Shoulder Pain

If you’re experiencing neck and shoulder pain, which is common for many of us, our physicians offer a number of treatments to help. Our team of physicians has developed an expertise in helping patients manage pain. Various types of injections can offer an alternative to pills and invasive surgery.

This is a minimally invasive procedure designed to reduce or eliminate pain in damaged facet joints of the spine. Pain is transmitted through what are known as the medial branch nerves. These nerves are disrupted with a local anesthetic to reduce pain.

For this minimally invasive, outpatient procedure, a heated needle tip is used to disrupt nerve conduction. This prevents the transmission of pain signals and reduces discomfort in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar areas.

This is usually a series of injections that can both diagnose and treat pain and is a common treatment our physicians use for patients dealing with shingles, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), or other conditions causing pain to the head, face, neck, or arms. It has also been quite successful in managing PTSD symptoms.
